FreeCell Solitaire

Frequently asked questions

Are all FreeCell deals winnable?
Nearly. Of the 32,000 classic Microsoft-numbered deals, only game #11982 has been proven unsolvable, and across random shuffles more than 99.9% can be won with the right plan. A loss almost always means a better line existed.
How many cards can I move at once?
By the strict rules only one, but a 'supermove' lets you drag a run using your spare spaces. The limit is (free cells + 1) doubled for each empty column, so keeping cells and columns open dramatically increases how much you can shift.
What are the free cells for?
They are four spaces that each hold one card, letting you temporarily lift a blocker and rearrange the tableau underneath. Use them sparingly — filling all four at once is the fastest way to freeze a winnable game.
Should I send cards to the foundations as soon as I can?
Not always. Low cards are useful landing spots and safe-havens mid-move. Send a card home only when you are sure you won't need it in the tableau; otherwise keep it in play.
Is FreeCell harder than Klondike?
It is more strategic but far less luck-based. Klondike hides cards and depends on the draw, so some deals are simply unwinnable; FreeCell shows everything, so skilled players win almost every game. Compare them on our Klondike page.

Klondike Solitaire

Frequently asked questions

How do I win Klondike solitaire?
Move all 52 cards to the four foundations, each built up by suit from Ace to King. You uncover the cards you need by building down in alternating colours in the tableau and drawing from the stock.
What's the difference between Draw 1 and Draw 3?
Draw 1 turns a single card from the stock each time and is more forgiving; Draw 3 turns three at once, so you only get easy access to every third card and must plan how to cycle the pile. Draw 3 is noticeably harder.
Why can't I move a card to an empty column?
In Klondike only a King — or a run starting with a King — may occupy an empty column. That rule makes empty columns far less flexible than in FreeCell, so plan them around a King.
Is every Klondike deal winnable?
No. Hidden cards mean some deals are impossible, and even with perfect play the Draw-1 win rate tops out around the high 80s to low 90s percent. If you want a game where nearly every deal is solvable, play FreeCell.
Is it free?
Yes — free, no download, no signup, with undo, hints and full-screen.

Yukon Solitaire

Frequently asked questions

How is Yukon solitaire different from Klondike?
All cards are dealt into the tableau with no stock pile, most of them face-up, and you can move any face-up card along with every card on top of it — even if that group isn't in sequence. Klondike, by contrast, hides more cards and makes you draw from a stock.
Can I really move a group of cards that isn't in order?
Yes — that's Yukon's defining rule. You lift any face-up card with the whole pile resting on it; only that bottom card has to legally fit its destination. The cards above it can be in any order.
What goes in an empty Yukon column?
Only a King, or a group of cards headed by a King. Empty columns are valuable, so save them for a King move that unlocks part of the board.
Are Yukon deals usually winnable?
More often than Klondike, because every card is visible from the start and there's no hidden stock. Success still hinges on planning your group moves to uncover the buried face-down cards, especially low ones.
